SISP was therefore thrilled that presenter Kristien Maes and her production team chose to visit us for a week, filming various aspects of our children's lives. |

On the first day, Kristien filmed some of the girls making chapatis up on the roof of the SISP centre. This is a space we don't normally use because it gets really hot up there. The concrete becomes almost unbearable to stand on with bare feet! Chapatis are Indian flatbread made with wholewheat flour, water, a little milk, salt and cooking oil. Despite the simple ingredients they are a delicious accompaniment to spicy Indian dishes. |

We wanted to show how we train young people to create works of art in our Coconut Workshop but filming inside would have been difficult so we moved the workbenches outside! Here we are, filming in the yard at the side of the SISP Centre. The chap in the blue T-shirt is Jelle, of course, who organised the TV crew's visit. He is pretending that he knows how to make something beautiful but in reality he is only there for the interview! The lady in the yellow top is Nele Termont, the talented director of this TV series. She would often be seen with her camera taking photos to help in the final production, diecting the film and sound technicians, and refining the interviews. Kristien really liked the jewellery made by our young craftsmen. Although perhaps a little too subtle for Indian tastes it is perfect for Europeans. The photo on the left shows Kristien trying on some earrings, watched by Mereena, the manager of the Coconut Workshop. |

Later on in the week, the TV crew had an appointment at Kovalam Beach with SISP's young surfers. These photos were taken at 8a.m. when the beach was quiet which made Kristien's interview a lot easier. We don't know how she did it but the colour of her shirt and her surfboard match perfectly! The waves at 8a.m. were not really good enough for surfing but conditions improved later in the day. The TV items, which will be broadcast from 6th - 19th April, will show Jelle and many of SISP's little surfer dudes displaying their amazing skills! |

Four of SISP's girls donned lavishly colourful dresses and performed a dance routine at the Hindu temple at Kovalam Beach. They had been pracising and perfecting their steps all week. Kristien watched in admiration from the sidelines and then, after changing into a beautiful orange and white silk saree, she plucked up the courage to join in. She clearly enjoyed herself! And Kristien was not the only one watching the girls in admiration - they provided much entertainment for a crowd of locals and tourists who had gathered just outside the temple. |

On one of the last days of her visit Kristien joined SISP's dance group on the roof of the SISP building. Khalifer, the danceleader, had choreographed a Bollywood-style routine with music from the very popular "Slumdog Millionaire" movie. And, judging by the concentration and smiles on Kristien's face, she had great fun learning the steps and joining in! |
