Cooking under tarpaulin |
5th July, 2008 |
A new date has been set for the move to the new building - July 15th. Believe it when you see it! Meanwhile, back at the old building, a tarpaulin has been set up just inches above the open cooking pot to give protection from both the monsoon and the wind. This corner of the garden is effectively the kitchen - rice, the staple food, is prepared in that massive pot which has to be set over an open fire. For a short while that corner of the building can be somewhat smoky! Rice does not provide a full range of nutrients so other foods need to be added to the diet to prevent malnutrition. These are prepared on the two-ring hob, connected to a gas bottle, in the kitchen. There is no gas main here! Kibeer, SISP's dance teacher, is also employed to prepare the food. He is clearly very flexible, in more ways than one! He is also good-humoured and very popular with staff, children and the public. As you can see, space in the old building is at a premium. A lot of the food, workshop materials and school materials have been packed in preparation for the move so there are boxes and bags everywhere. Clearly we are beginning to believe that the move is imminent. |
