In the neighbourhood of the SISP centre you will see women and little girls sitting near the road smashing rocks into small pieces using sledge hammers with specially thin handles. From early morning until night time they do this heavy work sheltered only by a banana-leaf screen that protects them for the sun or heavy rain. These stones are picked up weekly by trucks and transported everywhere inside, as well as outside, the country to be used in the construction industry. As you see, these stones are also used in the construction of our new SISP centre.

Meanwhile, it is difficult to work because of the constant rain. But still some walls of the building have already been plastered.
Even the terrace on the roof has almost been finished. The pile of bricks in front of the building is gradually becoming smaller as they continue building the walls of the different rooms of the main building. Furthermore, they have started constructing the base of the stairs to the first floor and this will be essential for carrying materials up to the first floor.

As you can see the workers don't wear protective clothing at the building. They work without a helmet or gloves, and, as you can see, they simply work in sandals!

There is a sociable end to every working day. Not only are the tools cleaned but the workers bring a few buckets with water and also wash themselves down.
