The construction work is going on... |

The construction work seems to be going well. When the boundary walls were being built we found that a suitable foundation already existed in several places. This meant that we benefited from cost and time savings because we could build the walls directly onto the old foundations. You can see from the photographs that the wall has now been completed. Meanwhile the iron braiders are already busy with the concrete reinforcing work for strengthening the bases of the foundations. If there is enough money, two platforms will be built to accommodate all the classrooms and offices even if we only construct one building at this time. For this reason the costs per square foot of usable space may seem expensive now but will be reduced if/when the second building is built. The architect has marked out where the drains for the buildings must be positioned. As usual, these will be dug out by hand because labour is cheap and machinery expensive. The water for making the concrete, washing tools etc is stored in large black tanks as can be seen in the photograph. Talking of water, unfortunately we are entering the monsoon period and a terrific amount of rain has fallen. We are waiting to see if work can continue. Naturally all activities are kept track of by the members of the governing board of SISP, and also by the teachers and students. They are all very curious, especially as we hope to move to the new building at the end of the year. background and earlier reports
